Plantapalooza plant sale to be held April 5

Plantapalooza, a plant sale at three UGA locations, will be held April 5 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the State Botanical Garden, the Trial Gardens at UGA and at the intersection of College Station and Riverbend roads.

Participants will find a vast assortment of plants at each sale and have access to experts to help select vegetation and answer questions to create a beautiful garden this spring.

The State Botanical Garden’s Visitor Center and Conservatory and its plazas will be filled with trees, shrubs, herbs, perennials, annuals and more, including Georgia Gold Medal plants and a selection of native plants. Numerous garden specialists, including garden curators, master gardeners and horticulturists, will be on hand to help shoppers. The garden’s coffee/sandwich café, Donderos’ Kitchen, and garden-themed gift shop also will be open.

The Trial Gardens, which are behind Snelling Dining Hall and next to the pharmacy building, will offer plants difficult to find anywhere else in Georgia. John Ruter, the director of the Trial Gardens and a professor in the horticulture department, will be there to lead tours of the garden and sign his newest book Landscaping with Conifers and Ginkgo for the Southeast.

The UGA Horticulture Club will have horticulture professors to share their knowledge at the intersection of College Station and Riverbend roads.

All locations will have free parking.

At each location, shoppers will receive a 5 percent discount stamp on a card that can be used at participating nurseries for up to 15 percent off the full price of plants during normal business hours that weekend.

Nurseries taking part include Cofer’s Home and Garden Showplace, 1145 Mitchell Bridge Road; Goodness Grows, 322 Elberton Road; Piccadilly Farms, 1971 Whippoorwill Road; Specialty Ornamentals, 3650 Colham Ferry Road; Thomas Orchard and Nursery, 6091 Macon Highway; and Wildwood Specialty Nursery, 4970 Lexington Road.
