Plant power

A Wall Street Journal article about how house plants can clean indoor air of pollutants that cause a range of health problems quoted UGA horticulture professor Stanley J. Kays and Bodie Pennisi, an associate professor of horticulture at UGA.

“The advantage of plants is you can sometimes solve your problem with $100 of plants or propagate your own,” said Kays.

Added Pennisi: “I envision this research helping producers enrich plants’ soil with microorganisms that are optimized to metabolize, say, five bad (volatile organic compounds).”
