The Performing Arts Center, in collaboration with the Hugh Hodgson School of Music, will host Sir James Galway’s inaugural American Flute Festival June 26 through July 1. Galway, often called “the master of the flute,” has presented his festival in Switzerland for the past 25 years, but this will be the first time he has made it available in the U.S.

“I am delighted that we have the opportunity to work with Sir James to offer his festival here,” said George C. Foreman, director of the Performing Arts Center. “It is quite a coup for the University of Georgia and the Performing Arts Center to bring the Galway Festival to America.”

The six-day festival provides a unique educational experience for flute students to train with the world’s most eminent flutists. The program includes master classes, workshops, guest artist evening concerts, flute exhibitors and the Galway Festival Flute Choir.

Three levels of student participation are available. The most advanced students will train directly with Galway, while other students will have the opportunity to work with his wife, Lady Jeanne Galway.

Details about the festival and registration information are available at pac.uga.edu.
