Performing arts center teams with Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center for concerts

The UGA Performing Arts Center is once again partnering with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center to present an entire season of concerts in the Franklin College Chamber Music Series.

Members of the Chamber Music Society will visit Athens six times during the 2016-2017 season, establishing the greatest presence in one location for CMS outside of New York City.

Tickets are now on sale for the Performing Arts Center’s 2016-2017 season. For more information, visit the Performing Arts Center online at pac.uga.edu or call the box office at 706-542-4400.

“This is the world’s premier repertory company for chamber music, and I’m excited about continuing our partnership with them,” said George Foreman, director of the UGA Performing Arts Center.

The Franklin College Chamber Music Series will begin Oct. 2 with the program Folk Inspirations, which will feature folk-inspired music by Prokofiev, Bartok and Dvorak.

The series will continue with Destination Vienna (Nov. 6), Tutto Italiano (Feb. 26), French Virtuosity (March 21) and Russian Twilight (April 2). The season will conclude May 22 with a tribute to five of America’s master composers, highlighted by a performance of Aaron Copland’s original 1944 version of “Appalachian Spring.”

On a related note, the PBS program Live from Lincoln Center will broadcast a documentary Sept. 9 about the Chamber Music Society’s tour to Shaker Village in Kentucky.
