Observatory open house

The department of physics and astronomy will host its first monthly observatory open house Oct. 21 from 8:30-10 p.m. on the roof of the Physics Building.

If the skies are clear,  the planet Jupiter, the large galaxy Andromeda and a myriad of stars and constellations will be viewable. Coincidentally, the Orionid meteor shower will peak on that night. It is best viewed from darker locations outside the city and later in the night. If the skies are cloudy, there will be a talk in the main lecture hall.

Observatory open houses are held monthly during fall and spring semesters. Upcoming open houses will be held Nov. 17 and Dec. 2. For more information, see www.physast.uga.edu/observatory/schedule.
