Not the corporate interest

The Christian Science Monitor, in an article about the state of Georgia tightening its food safety net after a recent batch of peanuts in Blakely was found to contain salmonella, quoted John McKissick, an agricultural economist at UGA.

In the article, McKissick refutes the notion that the peanut lobby is to blame for the outbreak, and points instead to antiquated laws and confusing inspection regimes.

“Maybe 20 years ago that would have been the case,” McKissick said. “But I don’t think it’s true today.”
