Training and Development to offer new certificate in diversity, inclusion

Beginning in February, UGA faculty and staff can enroll in a new certificate program focused on diversity and inclusion, thanks to a partnership among the Office of Institutional Diversity, Human Resources’ Training and Development Center and other diversity-related offices and programs across the institution.

“The diversity and inclusion certificate will enable university faculty and staff to learn more about the various aspects of diversity on our campuses and throughout our society,” said -Michelle Garfield Cook, interim associate provost for institutional diversity. “We want to make sure that everyone at UGA has the tools and knowledge necessary to create a welcoming and inclusive community for all.”

Participants in the program must successfully complete one core course and four electives to earn the certificate. Participants can choose to complete the certificate requirements or only enroll in courses that match their interests.

The inaugural course schedule includes: “Non-Discrimination and Anti-Harassment Policy” on Feb. 3; “NCBI@UGA: Building Effective -Relationships Across Group Identities” on Feb. 3, March 12 and 27; “Diversity@UGA: Beyond the Numbers” on Feb. 17; “Engaging Your Personality and Style to Embrace Diversity” on Feb. 24; “The LGBT Perspective” on March 20. The core courses are “NCBI@UGA” and “Diversity@UGA.”
