Motor vehicle records check

The Department of Administrative Services has mandated that state agencies and University System of Georgia institutions ensure only safe drivers operate state or rented vehicles while on employer business. This mandate is part of the state's Comprehensive Loss Control program, which aims to reduce insurance costs and liability.

Currently, all newly hired employees have a motor vehicle records check as part of the new-hire background check process.

In addition, a motor vehicle records checklist has been added to the UGA new-hire onboarding process.

As part of the state mandate, UGA Human Resources will conduct-at least annually-a motor vehicle records check with the state's Department of Driver Services. If the check uncovers a negative result, Human Resources may contact the employee's unit.

The guidelines for motor vehicle records are online at http://www.hr.uga.edu/motor-vehicle-record-mvr-checks. Direct any questions to Lynn Burt at mvr@uga.edu or 706-542-7336.
