Melting polarization?
Keith T. Poole, professor of political science, is quoted in a Boston Globe column about the limits of partisanship.
In the story, the author cites Poole’s research into the history of polarization in Congress. The political scientist has argued that political polarization is higher now than it was in the late 19th century.
However, the story predicts that partisanship could be reaching its peak-, and followed a decline in polarization.
“With the 2010 elections, the South is almost completely aligned toward the Republican Party, and after November it may fall back a bit,” said Poole, who holds the Philip H. Alston Jr. Distinguished Chair in the School of Public and International Affairs.
