Climate scientist Thomas Mote was quoted in a New York Times article about the once-in-150 years occurrence of melting covering 97 percent of Greenland’s ice sheet.
“I started looking at the satellite imagery and saw something that was really unprecedented” since the advent of satellite imaging of the earth’s frozen surface, said Mote, who is also head of the geography department in the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences. “Normally during the month of July, on any given day we’ll see about a quarter of the ice sheet covered.”
