As part of Homecoming Week activities at UGA, a ceremony was held Oct. 13 to celebrate the conclusion of rehabilitation work on Old College (background). The ceremony also marked the 200th anniversary of Old College, the first permanent building constructed at the university and the oldest remaining building in Athens.
Now housing offices for the dean and administrative staff of the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences, the building was symbolically re-opened when members of the university community took part in a massive cutting of the ribbon that encircled the building. Among the hundreds taking part in the ribbon cutting were (from left): Steven Brown, head of University Archives and Records Management; students Charlene Wang, Trey Stephens, Hariqbal Basi, Matthew Suber, Andrew Dill, Jamie Peper and Ali Gibbons; and Susan Parkes, associate professor of history and University Council president.
