Delta Air Lines and the University of Georgia will present the 2009 Delta Prize for Global Understanding to Mohamed ElBaradei, director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency, during a ceremony on March 18 at 7 p.m. at the Georgia Center for Continuing Education Conference Center and Hotel.

Established in 1997 with an $890,000 endowment grant from the Delta Air Lines Foundation, the Delta Prize is administered by UGA. The prize consists of a sculpture, a $10,000 cash award and a $50,000 travel allowance from Delta for a nonprofit organization of the recipient’s choice.

At 10 a.m., ElBaradei will be among leading security experts speaking on a panel discussion entitled, “Opportunities and Challenges: Nuclear Renaissance, Disarmament, Terrorism and Proliferation” in Masters Hall of the Georgia Center. The panel discussion, free and open to the public, is part of a one-day event commemorating the 20th anniversary of UGA’s Center for International Trade and Security.
