Hungarian State Folk Ensemble will perform in Hodgson Concert Hall

The Performing Arts Center presents the Hungarian State Folk Ensemble on Feb. 17 at 8 p.m. in Hodgson Concert Hall. Tickets are $25 (orchestra/front balcony) and $20 (rear balcony). Tickets are half price for UGA students with valid ID; discounts are available for groups.

Regarded as one of the greatest folkloric dance companies in the world, the company performs in traditional costumes with musical accompaniment provided by both the Hungarian State Folk Orchestra and the renowned Gypsy Orchestra.

The Hungarian State Folk Ensemble was founded in 1951 with the aim of collecting and playing authentic folk music and preserving the folk dances and traditional costumes of Hungary and Hungarian-inhabited areas.

During the five decades of its existence, the ensemble has succeeded in revitalizing the culture of the Hungarian people with a rich and colorful repertoire that has made the company one of the top international touring groups.

The ensemble has performed in 44 countries across four continents, winning the admiration of an audience of more than seven and a half million people.
A pre-performance lecture will be given at 7:15 p.m. by Laura Patterson, a music history student at UGA. The lecture is open to the public.
