Faculty are invited to submit research proposals related to poverty and the economy in Georgia by Sept. 26. A pre-application workshop will take place on Sept. 5 from 2-4 p.m. in the Training Room of the Fanning Building. Four to six grants ranging from $15,000 to $30,000 will be awarded.
The grants program aims to further research on persistent poverty and inform public policy that will improve the economy and the lives of Georgians. More than 57 percent of Georgia counties have among the highest poverty rates in the nation, according to a 2003 Carl Vinson Institute of Government study.
Applications that reflect collaboration across academic and service units are highly encouraged. In addition, research that builds on understanding the public policy barriers that inhibit or limit an individual’s ability to participate fully in the economy and build personal wealth are of particular interest.
This is the fourth year the University of Georgia Research Foundation Inc. has sponsored the Poverty and the Economy Faculty Research Grants Program, administered by the Office of the Vice President for Public Service and Outreach.
