Lee Pierce, a former doctoral student and lecturer in the communication studies department at the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences, recently received the National Communication Association’s 2016 Gerald R. Miller Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation Award.
Given annually, the award recognizes new communication scholars who completed outstanding dissertations during the previous academic year. Pierce was recognized for her dissertation “Syntaxing the Nation: Temporality and Rhetoric in Contemporary U.S. Political Culture.”
The National Communication Association advances communication as the discipline that studies all forms, modes, media and consequences of communication through humanistic, social scientific and aesthetic inquiry.
