Fitness, cardiac rehab program

The Fitness Center is accepting new applications for participation in its adult fitness and cardiac rehabilitation programs. The adult fitness program is designed to develop flexibility, muscular strength and endurance and cardiovascular endurance.

The cardiac rehabilitation program is a series of exercise sessions for people with coronary heart disease, prior heart surgery or revascularization or those at risk for developing coronary heart disease. The program builds endurance, strength, flexibility and can assist in preventing the progression of heart disease.

Each week the Fitness Center offers three one-hour cardiac rehabilitation exercise sessions (at 9:30 a.m., 2:45 p.m. and 4 p.m.) and three one-hour adult fitness exercise sessions (at 6:45 a.m., noon and 5:15 p.m.) on Monday, Wednesday and Friday in room 101E of the Ramsey Student Center.

The yearlong program costs $30 per month for the adult fitness program and $35 per month for the cardiac rehabilitation program. There is an additional initial entrance and fitness evaluation fee of $95. A physician’s referral is required prior to initial testing and stress test evaluation.

During the classes, a qualified exercise specialist leads participants in multi-level cardiovascular exercises. Advanced cardiac life support personnel also are on duty during the cardiac rehabilitation exercise sessions to ensure a safe and effective session.

An accurate evaluation of progress, individual exercise data, progress reports and periodic re-test data are kept on each participant and shared with the referring physician when appropriate.
