Final notices

A USA Today article focused on how police officers are trained to deliver bad news to crime victims’ families quoted Alan Stewart, an associate professor of counseling in the College of Education.

“Nobody’s ready to hear the news of a sudden, violent, untimely death,” said Stewart, who has studied death notifications for 14 years. “It makes it all the more important that the way a person is told the news itself doesn’t traumatize them.”
