Faculty member named to U.S. animal health committee

Dr. John R. Fisher, a professor in the population science department at the College of Veterinary Medicine and an adjunct professor of pathology, is one of 19 new members appointed by U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack to the Secretary’s Advisory Committee on Animal Health.

Fisher, who also is the director of the Southeastern Cooperative Wildlife Disease Study, will serve on the committee through June 2017.

The committee will provide outside perspectives on USDA strategies, policies and programs to prevent, control and/or eradicate animal health diseases. The committee also will lead broader dialogue on public health concerns and the stability of the livestock economies.
