Members of the Hugh Hodgson School of Music faculty take center stage Feb. 9 at 8 p.m. in Hugh Hodgson Concert Hall as part of the 2nd Thursday concert series. Tickets are $18, or $5 for UGA students with ID.

Two faculty ensembles, the Georgia Woodwind Quintet and the Franklin String Quartet, will present a concert of chamber music.

The Georgia Woodwind Quintet is made up of Angela Jones-Reus, flute; Reid Messich, oboe; D. Ray McClellan, clarinet; Jean Martin-Williams, horn; and Amy Marinello, bassoon. The quintet will present American composer Vincent Persichetti’s 1943 Pastorale, and French composer and flautist Paul Taffanel’s Wind Quintet.

For the second half of the concert, the Franklin String Quartet (Kristin Jutras, violin; Michael Heald, violin; Maggie Snyder, viola; and David Starkweather, cello) takes the stage with pianist Damon Denton to perform Antonín Dvorák’s Piano Quintet No. 2 in A major.

“Chamber music is a satisfying experience for both the musicians and the audience,” said Starkweather, associate director of the music school. “Each performer has an individual part to play—unlike the unison playing of an orchestra string section—so the musicians have a very personal dialog. It is truly rewarding music to play with my excellent colleagues.”
