UGA’s class of 2014 will include eight students who have been awarded the Bernard Ramsey Honors Scholarship, one of the university’s premier academic honors.
The 2010 Ramsey Honors Scholars and their hometowns are: Catherine Jane Backus, Oak Ridge, Tenn.; Emily Elizabeth Backus, Oak Ridge, Tenn.; Victoria Lynn DeLeo, Davie, Fla.; Amanda Jane Holder, Sag Harbor, N.Y.; Stephen Edward Lago, Roswell; Marianne Morris Ligon, Clemson, S.C.; Mariana Lynne Satterly, Bishop; and Pranay Kumar Udutha, Acworth.
The UGA Foundation trustees established the scholarship in 2000 to recognize the university’s most generous individual benefactor, Bernard Ramsey, a 1937 graduate of UGA’s Terry College of Business. Ramsey served as chairman of the board of Merrill Lynch for several years.
Ramsey Honors Scholars enroll in the Honors Program and can participate in a variety of academic and cultural opportunities. Study-abroad and peer and faculty mentoring programs are among the academic enrichment experiences.
The students also receive support from a senior faculty mentor and a current Ramsey Scholar.
“We are very impressed by this group of new Ramsey Scholars,” said David S. Williams, director of the Honors Program. “They have not only very strong academic credentials, but also a diverse array of talents. It will be a pleasure to work with them.”
