Ecologist Stephen R. “Steve” Carpenter will give the keynote address at the 22nd annual Odum Lecture Seminar. Carpenter’s presentation, “Ecology for Transformation” will begin at 12:20 p.m. on Nov. 1 in the ecology building auditorium.

“Improved understanding of social-ecological change is needed to improve policies and practices for reversing the decline of global ecosystem services,” said Carpenter. “Long-term research is a key source of the needed understanding, because of its focus on basic knowledge of change in complex systems.”

A public panel to discuss ecosystem resilience will be held at 3:30 p.m. in the ecology auditorium. Alan Covich, professor and former director of the Institute of Ecology, will serve as moderator. Panelists, in addition to Carpenter, include: Bruce Beck, professor at the Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources; Laurie Fowler, co-director of the River Basin Center; Judy Meyer, professor emerita of the UGA Institute of Ecology; and Rebecca Moore, an assistant professor at the forestry and natural resources school.
