The Performing Arts Center presents award-winning flutist Dora Seres March 30 at 8 p.m. in Ramsey Concert Hall. Tickets for the concert are $18 (half price for UGA students). A native of Hungary, Seres won first prize at the 2005 Young Concert Artists International Auditions in New York.
Born in Szombathely in 1980, Seres studied at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest. She has won the top prize at competitions around the world, including the 2002 International Flute Competition in Markneukirchen, Germany, the 2001 International Flute Competition in Kobe, Japan, and the 2001 Prague Spring Competition. She also won first prize in the 2003 Budapest International Flute Competition and the 2001 Hungarian National Flute Competition.
Seres has performed throughout the U.S., Europe and Japan. The Hungarian Culture Center presented her in concert at Kensington Palace in London as well as in Germany and Finland. She also performs as the principal flutist of the Hungarian Radio Orchestra. Her first CD, entitled Flautissimo, was released in 2004 by Hungaroton Records.
For her Athens performance, Seres will be accompanied by pianist Steven Beck, a graduate of the Juilliard School.
The Performing Arts Center is scheduling an educational residency for Seres in conjunction with her March 30 recital. She will present educational programs for students in Clarke, Barrow and Oconee counties in addition to offering a master class for UGA music students.
