A Willson Center/Peabody Awards Roundtable held on the 50th anniversary of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy will pay tribute to Kennedy and his legacy and examine the impact of his assassination then and now. “John F. Kennedy Remembered” will take place at 3 p.m. Nov. 22 in the Richard B. Russell Building Special Collections Libraries auditorium.
A screening of JFK: A Time Remembered, an hour-long documentary produced in 1988, will precede the discussion. The documentary, written and directed by Mark Obenhaus and originally broadcast on PBS, is part of the Peabody Awards Collection. It interweaves archival film and television footage with recollections by journalists and Kennedy administration figures.
Scheduled panelists are Janice Hume, professor and chair of journalism, Trey Hood, professor of political science, Ashton Ellett, a graduate student in the department of history, and Donald Wilkes, professor of law emeritus.
Hume, author of Journalism and a Culture of Grief, studies the relationship between American journalism and collective memory.
The screening and roundtable are free and open to the public.
