The University Health Center has many services that are available to faculty and staff. Although primary medical care is exclusively for students, their spouses and domestic partners, some of the health center services are available to faculty and staff. The Vision Clinic, the Travel Clinic, the massage therapy department, the pharmacy and most recently, the Dental Clinic, are open to employees. A few of these services are available to spouses, dependants and even the general public.
The most recent services to open to faculty and staff are the Dental Clinic and pharmacy. Faculty, staff, their spouses and/or domestic partners can now make appointments with the Dental Clinic. A full-service dental practice with two full-time dentists and two hygienists, the clinic provides comprehensive dental care including cleanings, X-rays, fillings, crowns, root canals, extractions, fabrication of TMJ/clenching appliances, athletic mouth guards and teeth whitening. The clinic is open weekdays from 8 a.m.-noon and 1-5 p.m.
The pharmacy recently began filling prescriptions for faculty and staff. Prescriptions written by doctors outside the health center are accepted, and most insurance plans are honored. The pharmacy also offers commonly prescribed generic drugs for $5 and carries a large selection of over-the-counter products. Prescriptions can be requested online, by phone or in person. Prescriptions can be transferred from another pharmacy. The pharmacy is open seven days a week during fall and spring semesters, and five days during the summer.
The Vision Clinic has been used by students, faculty and staff since it opened in 2009. In addition to faculty and staff, the Vision Clinic offers its services to spouses and partners and dependent children older than 4. The clinic has two optometrists on staff and offers eye exams, contact lens fittings and carries a selection of eyeglass frames. The designer lines cater to the latest fashion trends, and lower priced frames are available for the budget conscious. Sunglasses, both prescription and non-prescription, are also in stock. Discounts are offered to employees. The Vision Clinic is open weekdays from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
Therapeutic massage, a service of the physical therapy department, is offered in spa-like setting. No referral is necessary. A number of massage options, including Swedish, deep tissue, pre-natal and pregnancy massage and Reiki healing therapy are available. Hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m. weekdays. Massages are available for 30 or 60 minutes. Gift certificates and massage packages can be purchased.
The Travel Clinic provides vaccinations, preventive medicine and health advice for those traveling abroad. This is the only service at UHC that is open to the general public. Patients are seen by appointment, weekdays from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
UHC is not in-network with any insurance plan other than the student plan provided by Pearce and Pearce, however, its staff will file insurance for out-of-network reimbursement. Check with your insurance provider for coverage details. All patients, including faculty, staff, spouses, partners or dependants must have a valid UGA ID. The only exception is for patients who visit the Travel Clinic, which is open to the public.
