The documentary Chasing Ice officially will open the 2013 EcoFocus Film Festival March 21 at 6 p.m. at Ciné, 234 W. Hancock Ave.

Now in its sixth year, EcoFocus features top-quality, full-length short and children’s films that address pressing environmental issues. The film festival is an iniative of the Odum School of Ecology.

Chasing Ice is the story of National Geographic photographer James Balog’s efforts to capture undeniable evidence of climate change across the Arctic. The 7 p.m. screening will be preceded by an opening night reception at 6 p.m. and followed by a panel discussion. The screening is being sponsored by Georgia Sea Grant, which also partnered with EcoFocus to present the inaugural Jekyll Island Green Screen in mid-February to an audience of more than 800 coastal Georgians.

This year’s EcoFocus Film Festival runs from March 20-24 and features special events including panel discussions, receptions and hands-on activities. EcoFocus is supported by the Jane and Harry Willson Center for Humanities and Arts, the ecology school and the Office of Sustainability.
