Championship seasons

The UGA gymnastics team (top photo) won its fifth straight and 10th overall national championship April 17 in Lincoln, Neb. Senior Courtney Kupets contributed perfect 10s on bars and vault to the victory. Kupets, a 15-time All–­American and finalist for the Honda Award, went on to win the individual titles in the all-around, beam, bars and tie for the national title on floor—setting the record for most individual titles at the NCAA championships. The team competition was head coach Suzanne Yoculan’s last meet (See Campus Closeup, page 6).

On April 18, the equestrian team (bottom photo) won its ­second consecutive overall national title at the Varsity Equestrian National Championships in Waco, Texas. The team won in the hunt seat discipline and took fourth-place in the Western discipline. Junior Haylie Jayne captured her first national individual championship in equitation over fences.
