Call for conference papers

UGA’s Institute for Women’s Studies is accepting papers and proposals for its 2008 “Women, Rock! and Politics” conference, which will be held May 30–31.

The conference will feature feminist research on gender and contemporary music traditions, especially rock, pop, hip-hop, rap and folk, and is open to academics, musicians, fans and community members.

IWS seeks submissions including performances, paper presentations or group panels—particularly work that focuses on the intersections of race, gender, class, sexuality, disability and other dimensions of identities and politics.

All proposals that critically address the gendered dimensions of popular music will be welcome.

Proposals should be no longer than 250 words and should include name, e-mail, affiliation and audiovisual requirements for all presenters and panel members.

Submissions can be e-mailed to cuomo@uga.edu with the subject heading “Women, Rock and Politics.” Proposals are due by April 25.
