Building services operation undergoes reorganization

To streamline and enhance its services to campus, the Physical Plant has reorganized its building services operation. The change is effective March 1.

“This reorganization will allow PPD to plan more strategically, combine some operational functions and make more efficient use of staffing and equipment resources to maintain the residence instruction facilities,” said Dexter Fisher, PPD’s director of services. “Reduced expenditures also will result as buildings are converted to green cleaning products, product inventory is more tightly controlled and equipment is shared across campus.”

Betty Davenport-Dumas, a Physical Plant employee of 37 years, will serve as superintendent of all building services operations. Three other employees have been promoted to assistant superintendents in the reorganization: James Murajda, north zone, North Campus Building Services Building, day shift;  Leo Billups, south zone, South Campus Building Services Building, day shift; and Maurice Derricotte, north and south operations, South Campus Building Services Building, night shift.

The North Campus building services offices inside the Training and Development Building on South Thomas Street will serve as centralized headquarters.

“The campus community should not notice any disruption in service during this transition period,” Fisher said.

Any questions about the reorganization should be directed to Fisher at (706) 542-0293 or dfisher@uga.edu.
