Brazilian university honors Center for Simulational Physics director

David P. Landau, Distinguished Research Professor and founding director of the Center for Simulational Physics, has been awarded a “Doctor Honoris Causa” by the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.

Landau’s scientific interactions with UFMG, one of the highest ranked universities in Brazil, began in 1989 and were instrumental in the inception of the Brazilian Meeting for Simulational Physics, a biennial event patterned after the annual workshop hosted by the Center for Simulational Physics at UGA. In addition, multiple students and faculty members from UFMG have visited the Center for Simulational Physics to learn more about state-of-the-art simulation methods. In 2014, Landau was elected to the Brazilian Academy of Sciences.
