Board of regents will hold its monthly meeting at UGA

For the first time in nearly 10 years, UGA will host the University System of Georgia Board of Regents’ monthly meeting Oct. 9 and 10.

The visit from the regents will give the university an opportunity to showcase some recent campus additions.

“The primary goal of the meeting is to conduct the work of the system,” said Meg Amstutz, chief of staff in the president’s office, “but we hope that the board members and system presidents in attendance also will have a chance to experience the day-to-day excellence that exists on this campus.”

While meetings are usually held in Atlanta, the board holds meetings at USG campuses once or twice a year. The most recent campus meeting was at Georgia Southwestern State University in Americus in April.

UGA last hosted board of regents meetings in 2003. Those were conducted at the Miller Learning Center just after the building was completed.

“It was a wonderful opportunity to showcase the new classroom and library space,” Amstutz said.

Next week’s meetings will be held in a different setting.

“This October, the board will be meeting at UGA in the Georgia Center for Continuing Education, which is well equipped to handle this two-day meeting,” said Amstutz.

During their stay, regents also will have the chance to tour the campus, including the new Richard B. Russell Building Special Collection Libraries.

The university’s planning for the upcoming meeting’s logistics is a team effort involving staff from the Office of Special Events, the Georgia Center, the Office of Public Affairs and Enterprise Information Technology Services.

Once available, an agenda of the regents’ October meeting will be posted online at http://www.usg.edu.
