Swimming and diving
• Jack Bauerle will serve as head coach of the U.S. women’s swimming team, and diving coach Dan Laak will serve as the U.S. men’s assistant diving coach.
• Signee Allison Schmitt along with former UGA standouts Chris Colwill, Kara Lynn Joyce and Gil Stovall will represent the U.S. in swimming and diving competitions.
• Neil Versfeld, Troyden Prinsloo and signee Wendy Trott will swim for their native South Africa.
• Swimmer Sebastien Rouault will represent France in Beijing.
• Former UGA swimmer Sarah Poewe will represent Germany in Beijing.
Track and field
• Former UGA swimmer Sheila Taormina, who has already competed in the 1996, 2000 and 2004 Olympics, will make history by becoming the first American woman to compete in three Olympics in three different sports when she represents the U.S. in the modern pentathlon.
• Reese Hoffa and Hyleas Fountain will compete in the shot put and heptathlon, respectively, for the U.S.
• Former UGA athlete Levern Spencer represents her native St. Lucia in the high jump.
• Croatia’s team is bolstered by András Haklits, who will compete in the hammer throw event.
• Debbie Ferguson, a former UGA runner, will compete in the 100- and 200-meter dash events for the Bahamas.
• Argentina will be represented by UGA’s Jenny Dahlgren in the hammer throw.
• Sultana Frizell, another former UGA athlete, will compete in the hammer throw for Canada.
• Junior Justin Gaymon earned a first alternate spot in the 400-meter hurdles.
