Beetle-mania

UGA entomologist Wayne Gardner was featured in an Associated Press story about the invasive species of kudzu bugs, which are causing problems for soybean farmers in the Southeast.

The kudzu bug, also called the bean plataspid and kudzu beetle, already is entrenched in Georgia and was recently discovered as far west as Mississippi.

“We knew these insects were very strong fliers, but we also knew they’re exceptionally good hitchhikers,” he said.
