Alan Covich, a professor of ecology, has been elected to a four-year term as president of the International Association for Ecology.

The association was established in 1967 as the Ecology/Environmental Section of the International Union of Biological Sciences to assist the development of the science of ecology and to support the application of ecological principles to global problems. It hosts biannual workshops and symposia on selected topics, and the group’s international congresses, held every four years, serve as the major forum for ecological scientists and practitioners from around the world.
