Thirty-seven academically outstanding students will enter the university this fall as the recipients of one of two major scholarships awarded by the institution.
Twenty students have been awarded four-year Foundation Fellowships, which will provide in-state students an annual stipend of $9,000 in addition to the HOPE Scholarship. Out-of-state students will receive $14,500 in annual scholarships and tuition waivers.
Selection for the Foundation Fellowship is a highly coveted honor. The average SAT score for the class of 2010 is 1501. The average grade point average is 4.19 on a 4.0 scale, which indicates extra points for advanced placement courses.
Another 17 students were awarded Ramsey Honors Scholarships, which provide additional merit-based aid so that they can pursue their fields of interest in UGA’s Honors Program.
Named for the late Bernard Ramsey, UGA’s most generous individual benefactor, the award includes an annual stipend of $4,500 for in-state students along with the HOPE Scholarship. Out-of-state students receive an annual $7,000 award plus out-of-state tuition waivers. Second- and third-year students in the program also are eligible for a $2,500 travel-study grant.
This year’s Ramsey Honors Scholars have an average SAT score of 1522. Their average high school grade point average is 4.11 on a 4.0 scale.
“These students have been selected in part because of their intellectual drive and curiosity,” said Steve Elliott-Gower, associate director of the Honors Program. We expect them to make tremendous contributions to the classroom and beyond.”
